I had troubles with my internet connection that with the help of my provider have been (hopefully) solved. Anyway as you can imagine I have a lot of stuff to catch back up on from last week. I hope to be back in game late tonight or early tomorrow.

Woots! we were starting to get worried about you! I sent out the St Bernards over the hills to rescue you, but they all came back empty handed...and drunk

Curious, were you using "Zonealarm's" firewall? When they patched mine it would not allow access to the intrawebs.......I soent hours on comcast trying to get it fixed before finally figuring out that zonealarm was the cause and I had to uninstall it:-(

I have heard about the problem with Zone Alarm. The person I talked to was able to fix it by deleting everquest and launchpad from Zone Alarm's application list. He then started EQ and Zone Alarm configured new settings. He has been fine since.

My problem seemed to be a combo of something that changed on my ISPs end (but they didn't admit to that so /shrug) and having to reset (hard reset) both my modem and router.

I actually run without a firewall - but I scan for viruses a Lot and avoid dangerous sites.

Laenyani's aunt has zone alarm, and was having trouble with her internet not working (Again), as well as severalother applications (Google Earth being one). I unblocked the programs/connections from Zone Alarm, and some started working again, though others didn't. I turned off the firewall, and security from every part of Zonealarm, and Still some things wouldn't work. The crazy thing was that quitting the application would leave everything running fine, but with it on (and with every option turned off) some programs were still failing to run.

In the end I decided that it was just a poorly written utility that doesn't properly manage its services. It was clearly doing more harm than good.

My personal opinion is that firewall (and program/site blocking) software is too confusing for the typical user, and too overbaring for the geek. I recommend them for parents to place on their kids computers, and thats about all.

Spending the time backup data, and the money on a CD copy of their operating system, is time and money much better spent imo.
